VPN Protocols
Use the VPN Tracker Mac App for Intel or Apple Silicon Macs, the leading IPSec Mac VPN client, for secure VPN data connections on Apple macOS Big Sur (11), macOS Catalina (10.15), macOS Mojave (10.14), macOS High Sierra (10.13), macOS Sierra (10.12), Mac OS X El Capitan (Mac OS X 10.11).
There are no limitations regarding the use of VPN protocols.
Shimo supports every major VPN protocol that is currently available: The widely used CiscoVPN, the very secure OpenVPN and all standard-compliant IPSec connections. It also handles Point-to-Point Tunneling (PPTP VPN) and Layer 2 Tunneling (L2TP) protocols. Even Cisco's new Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol AnyConnect is supported by Shimo – the most flexible VPN client for Mac. Shimo also enables you to establish encrypted Secure Shell (SSH) connections including port forwarding for secure web browsing.

- To make it work, create a new PPTP/L2TP account and simply follow the instructions, and you'll be good to go. However, Flow VPN does the same for free. This client supports both PPTP and OpenVPN on macOS Sierra; just overwrite the Flow VPN server address with any server, and make a connection.
There is no other VPN client for Mac which supports this variety of available protocols. If you want to have the all-in-one solution for your secure connections, Shimo is technology of choice. Shimo does not support PPTP/L2TP on macOS Catalina due to Apple's enforced security requirements.
Some come with both separate dual plugs (for older computers) and a interchangeable 4-pole plug for more modern devices. Macs have a combined audio port. More recently Apple introduced a 4-conductor (4-Pole) TRRS audio jack that combines speaker and mic into one. Bluetooth microphone for mac. Apple stopped the support for it's builtin PPTP VPN client on macOS Sierra, but they kept their libraries, so it's still possible to create a PPTP VPN connection over command line without using any 3rd party clients, like FlowVPN or Shimo.
I know that PPTP VPN has become outdated and is less secure than other protocols, but in a corporate world you sometimes don't have a choice.

The following procedure will show how you can create a PPTP VPN on macOS Sierra. It's based on my own configuration (MPPE-128), so you might have to adapt it to your need.

The procedure is quite simple, you first need to create a file in /etc/ppp/peers
with a name that represent your domain, or company, so in my case I will call it vpn.example.com
.

This file will contain the configuration that pppd
daemon will reference and try to connect.

daemon with the following command and that's it.
